A strictly religious funeral was held today for Prof. Simon Askenazy, outstanding Polish-Jewish historian and former representative of Poland to the League of Nations.
Prof. Askenazy was buried in the Jewish cemetery at the side of Dr. Ludwig Zamenhoff, the founder of Esperanto. The religious rites were held in accordance with the professor’s wishes.
The funeral procession stopped before the Warsaw University where Prof. Askenazy was honorary professor of philosophy. It later stopped before the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Warsaw University and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lowered their flags to half staff.
