Rising sentiment in the Netherlands against participation in the Berlin Olympic games evidenced itself today in the calling of a protest mass meeting and the decision by an important Dutch sports organization not to send a delegation to the games.
After taking a referendum among its members, The Netherlands Athletic Association decided to keep its Olympic delegation home.
The public meeting was called for Nov. 20 by the Dutch Committee for the Defence of the Olympic Ideal, an organization agitating for withdrawal of Holland from the games. Among those who will participate in the rally are H. Putters, president of the Catholic Football Association of Amsterdam and J. Sanders, former president of the Dutch Billiard Union. The Billiard Union recently decided not to participate in tournaments in which German teams are entered.
Bernhardt Vandam, president of the committee, declared to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today that the committee is absolutely unpolitical. “It is Germany that has made politics of sports,” he said.
