Holocaust survivors slapped Austrian banks, the Austrian government and the Sotheby’s auction house with a $1 billion lawsuit over artworks stolen by the Nazis. Speaking in Vienna, New York attorney Edward Fagan announced the suit by the Association of Holocaust Victims for the Restitution of Artwork and Masterpieces. The suit alleges that the two banks, the government and Sotheby’s sold artworks looted from Jews by such masters as Cezanne, Delacroix and Monet, without the former owners’ permission.
