The three bills relating to immigration and naturalization recently reported by the House Immigration Committee came up for consideration and vote in the House this afternoon.
The Box Bill to exclude aliens temporarily employed on the Canadian side of the American border was passed. After the adoption of the Box Bill the Free Bill was taken up. This bill provides for the admission within the preference class of expert technicians needed in American industries. A great deal of opposition to this bill developed, led by Congressman Sabath of Chicago, who proposed an amendment to place technicians within the non-quota class of immigration.
The amendment was defeated.
