The House today passed and sent to the Senate a $5,208,419, 979 Foreign Aid Bill to finance economic, technical, and military assistance abroad for the new fiscal year. Funds for Israel are included and are estimated to amount to $40,000,000 or less.
The State Department asked that the appropriation for Israel not be firmly specified so that aid could be divided between Israel and the Arab states according to the State Department’s view of needs existing in the area in the future. It was made known that the State Department felt aid to Israel should be reduced while aid to Arabs hold be increased.
