A wide plan for the drainage and amelioration of three hundred thousand hectares (approximately 740,000 acres) of land in Syria to be used for Jewish colonization had been announced here today in connection with the French government’s sanction of the admission of East European Jews to Syria.

The plan was prepared by the Jewish engineer Joseph Loewy. It suggests draining the Valley of Amouk and the Lake of Antioch. It further suggests a direct flow by a tunnel through the Beilan
