Hugh Gibson, former United States Ambassador to Belgium and Poland, has joined the Commission for Polish Relief, it was learned today.
Gibson will sail Saturday from New York on the Conte De Savoia for Paris and London to take up with the Allies questions concerning the effects of the blockade on shipment of relief supplies to Poland. Sailing with him will be John Hartigan, who is going to Berlin to work out with the German authorities further details regarding relief work in Nazi-occupied Poland.
Gibson was in Washington yesterday and visited State Department officials. He also saw Norman Davis, chairman of the American Red Cross, who is an old friend of his. The discussion was believed to presage close relations between the Red Cross and the Commission for Polish Relief.
Meanwhile, the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee considering Polish relief set another meeting for tomorrow.
