The Palestine Land Development Company, which obtained the concession over the Huleh territory on the Palestine-Syria frontier, announced today that it is starting construction of the first buildings in Huleh next week.
This will be the first time in the history of Palestine that life will be brought into the Huleh district. This swampy district has practically no inhabitants, with the exception of a few Arab families.
Elaborate plans are being prepared by the Palestine Land Development Company in collaboration with the Jewish Farmers Association, to start drainage of the swamps in Huleh on a large scale within the next few months. When the land has been drained, it will be settled by Jews. It is estimated that 8,000 Jewish families can be colonized there once the drainage operation is completed.
According to the projects of the Palestine Land Development Company and the Jewish Farmers Association, the settling of Jews in Huleh will be accomplished in three shifts. The first shift will be settled while the drainage work is still in process.
The Huleh concession has been for many years in the hands of Arabs. The Palestine government last year approved its sale to the Jews, since the Arab concessionaires had done nothing to develop the district.
