A fantastic confidence game in which a pseudo-bishop furnished Jews with certificates of conversion for prices ranging from 50 to 200 pengoes (about $10 to $40) was revealed here today. Police arrested Etienne Nemeth, who had allegedly installed a false altar in his room, where he practiced “mass conversions.” Jews possessing his certificates were able to change their religion on the civil register, officials said.
