The present Nazi-inspired wave of anti-Semitism in Europe is “the childish echo of ancient persecutions,” declared a deputy of the Liberal party in the Hungarian parliament, it is reported here today.

During the debate on the bill for abolishing the equality of the Jewish religion in Hungary, which is reported in the Voelkischer Beobachter, the deputy expressed “pained regret at the degradation of the Jewish confession” and declared that it was a “welcome sign that anti-Semitism among the Hungarian people is decreasing.” The spokesman for the government party, however, pressed for consideration of the bill and proposed that in the future Jews be forbidden from changing their religion, and that any such changes effected in the past be annulled.
