Hungarian Government Dismisses Officials, Mostly Jews

The Hungarian Government is now dismissing thousands of its officials throughout the country. This is being done as one of the measures being taken by the government for the stabilization of the Hungarian currency in connection with the loan which Hungary expects to float under the guarantee of the League of Nations.

In the city of Budapest alone, 1,090 teachers and inspectors of schools were dismissed. The majority of them are Jews.

A special meeting of protest against these wholesale dismissals was held at the Central Democratic Club here. Many non-Jewish teachers were present, some of whom pointed out that the time is approaching when the natives of Hungary themselves will put an end to the present rulers, who are mainly “Germans, Slovaks, Roumanians and anti-Semites.”
