Revelations of the anti-Semitic activities of Admiral Horthy, Regent of Hungary, made by Baron Aladar von Boroviczeny in his memoirs which are being published by the Hearst newspapers in America, have aroused Hungarian Jews to a renewed indignation.
None other than Adminal Horthy is responsible for the pogroms and the white Terror, according to Boroviczeny. It has also been disclosed in monarchist circles that the friendship of Horthy and former Emerpor Karl was broken off because of an anti-Semitism which they did not share in common.
Hungarian Jews consider it a proved fact that Commandant Ivan Hejjas has carried on his pogromist activities only through the orders of Admiral Horthy. Boroviczeny himself refused to enter the secret. White Organizations on the ground that a king’s officer can not swear loyalty to a secret organization. Emperor Karl, it is now recalled, sought always to maintain the traditional Hapsbur attitude favorable to the Jews and the Jewish ex-Minister Vaszonyi has never concealed his monarchist sympathies.
It is even said that former Emperor Karl’s attempt to win back the throne was unsuccessful because of his friendship for the Jews and the consequent loss of Horthy’s support.
