Hungarian Minister of Education Jozsef Revai reported to the Hungarian Workers (Communist) Party executive here that the Hungarian authorities “are receiving hundreds of letters from Jews in Israel clamering to return to Hungary.”
The Minister made it clear that Hungary is not inclined to permit large-scale emigration of Jews to the Jewish state. “We are in no way willing to promote the emigration of hundreds of thousands of workers for exploitation in Palestine,” he said. The Jews in Hungary should remain in this country “to support the Hungarian workers in their constructive efforts,” he stressed.
