The Ministry of Justice has asked the French occupation authorities in Austria to surrender Col. Arpad Toldy, who is now being held at Innsbruck.
Toldy, who was the Horthy Government’s Commissioner for Jewish Property, is accused of having stripped Jews of millions of dollars worth of valuables and having ordered the torture of those who refused to disclose the whereabouts of their property. In the closing days of the war he shipped truckloads of jewelry and gold coin to Germany, most of which was captured by the Allies.
The Ministry of Justice has also contacted Soviet military authorities with the object of apprehending Jczef Nidossy, who commanded a fascist center in Budapest where hundreds of Jews were tortured to death. It is believed that Nidossy is in a prison camp under a different name. His photograph has been sent to the commandants of all camps.
A memorial to the Jews who died at the Harka labor camp has been unveiled in the Jewish Heroes Cemetery here. Delegates of the government parties and representatives of the Budapest municipality and Jewish organizations spoke at the dedication ceremonies.
