The Hungarian Government has issued an order, effective next Thursday, requiring stunning of cattle before slaughter, in effect prohibiting slaughter according to Jewish ritual. Chief Rabbi Ferenc Hevesi and other Jewish leaders are seeking to secure permission from the Government for a quota of kosher meat for orthodox Jews. It is not yet known whether the efforts will be successful.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Nazis demonstrated on the occasion of the release of Ferenc Szalasi, leader of the Arrow-and-Cross organization, from police supervision. Police dispersed the demonstrators and doubled patrols throughout the city to prevent anti-Jewish manifestations.
