The Agriculture Ministry, announcing a decree to “facilitate expropriation of 500,000 acres of Jewish-owned farm land,” declared today that all Jewish landowners must continue cultivation of their land or they will not receive full compensation when their farms are taken over.
In view of Premier Paul Teleki’s criticism last week that only 125,000 acres of Jewish farm lands had been expropriated, announcement of the forthcoming expropriation of 500,000 acres was interpreted as signifying that the third anti-Jewish law advocated by Teleki had already been put into operation, the first results to be the prompt liquidation of all Jewish landowners in Hungary.
