Funeral services were held at Riverside Memorial Chapel yesterday afternoon for I. A. Benequit, Jewish communal worker who died Tuesday morning after a short illness. Mr. Benequit was 68.
By a tragic coincidence, the first volume of Mr. Benequit’s memoirs, upon the writing of which he had spent the better part of the last three years of his life, was published on the day of the funeral. The book, which was written in Yiddish, is called “Durchgelebt un Durchgetracht.” It will shortly be followed by a second, to be finished by the family of the deceased.
Benequit was a member of the executive committee of the American Branch of the Yiddish Scientific Institute; of Branch 2, Workmen’s Circle, and of the publication board of the “Freie Arbeiter Stimme.”
