The International Refugee Organization has appropriated a sun of $4,000,000 to aid in the transportation of Jewish displaced persons from Europe to Israel, Eliahu Dobbin, head of the Jewish Agency immigration department, reported here today.
Dobkin said he hoped that the I.R.O. allocation would be doubled in the near future. At the same time he revealed that emergency fund-raising campaigns in central and western Europe, as well as in South America, had “reached unexpected proportions.” the campaigns, he said, had already raised $30,000,000, as compared with 4,000,000 raised during the same period last year.
The Histadruth council conference, which ended its three-day session today, demanded that efforts “be concentrated towards bringing 100,000 Jew to Israel by the end of this year.” A resolution was adopted asking Jews throughout the world to raise fluids to provide transportation for these future immigrants. Another resolution called for aid to Jews living in Arab countries.
