Harold L. Ickes, Secretary of the Interior, addressing the Men’s Club of Temple Beth El here, condemned religious and race prejudice and pointed out that the Constitution of the United States was written as a bulwark for minorities.
“Minority groups in this country have been victims of a crass racial prejudice,” he stated. “Men have been discriminated against on account of the color of their skins or because of their religion. In the final analysis the Constitution was set up by those who wrote it as a bulwark for minorities. It is the minority that needs protection from the mob spirit of the majority.”
Mr. Ickes was introduced by U. S. Circuit Court Judge Charles C. Simons.
