Accomplishments of Hadassah in the face of obstacles presented by the ignorance and superstition of part of the Palestinian population formed the topic of an address delivered yesterday afternoon by Mrs. Samuel W. Halprin, president, over Station WEAF.
“Not only must Hadassah cure the sick and take numerous measures to prevent the outbreak and spread of disease,” said Mrs. Halprin, “but it must patiently educate the people to an acceptance of scientific medical treatment. It takes perseverance, alertness and understanding on the part of the doctors and nurses to clear away the rubbish of medievalism that still prevails in Eastern countries.
“The entire work of reconstruction in Palestine depends first upon the health of the people living and working in the country. Through its vast network of preventive medicine, in which infant welfare work is primary, Hadassah is teaching the people of Palestine how to keep well and how to rear children to healthy manhood and womanhood,” declared the Hadassah leader.
