Governor Henry Horner of Illinois, in a letter addressed to Adolph Copeland, president of the Chicago Branch of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, praises the work of the HIAS.

“I am glad to express my just appreciation in your Golden Anniversary Book, which marks the half century of the splendid, unique and necessary work of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society,” he wrote.

“Your society renders a necessary service to the inexperienced and friendless immigrant, providing temporary shelter and sustenance and advice and relieving that mental distress which many times is more severe than physical distress.”
