Immigration to Israel was down 12 percent during the first half of this year compared to the same period last year according to figures published by the Central Bureau of Statistics today.
The period of Jan.-June 1973 saw the arrival of 19,600 immigrants and 4800 “potential” immigrants. “Potential” immigrants is the status usually opted for by settlers from Western countries who have not decided definitely about staying. Settlers from the Soviet Union become full immigrants on their arrival. In the latter category there were 14,000 between Jan.-June compared to 15,000 in the same period last year.
