The Jewish Agency denied today statements made at the recent Consultative Conference of Jewish Organizations in London that the mass immigration of North African Jews has upset the economic balance in Israel.
In a statement issued by the Agency’s immigration department it was averred that not only did this migration not interfere with Israel’s economy, but it served to increase production. This is particularly true in the field of agriculture, the statement said, because two-thirds of the new immigrants go directly to agricultural settlements and one-third go to new development areas.
