The importance of German reparations payments to the Israel economy was underlined here today by Hillel Dan, former head of the corporation which places orders for and distributes, in Israel goods supplied under the reparations agreement, in a report on the progress of reparations shipments.
The influx of raw materials from Germany is so heavy, he stressed, that it is keeping Israel’s industries fully supplied. He cited as one example the local iron industry which has already stored up enough German iron for fabrication during the next 18 months. Reparations funds have permitted Israel to purchase 16 new ships for the Israel merchant marine as well as to acquire machinery needed by Israel industry and electric power network.
