IMPRESSIVE PARADES THROUGHOUT ISRAEL MARK INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS
Israel’s Independence Day was marked here today with parades throughout the country. One of the largest was the Army sports parade at Ramat Gan stadium where 50,000 spectators saw Acting Premier Moshe Sharett and Yigal Yadin, Israel’s Chief of Staff, take the salute. Later, both General Yadin and Mr. Sharett proceeded to Jerusalem to participate in the capital’s celebration.
The achievements of the Jewish State were emphasized in a special parade of hundreds of Vehicles–including Kaiser-Frazer cars assembled in Israel. Decorated with Israel flags, the motorized procession started in the early morning hours from Nahariya and proceeded through towns and villages on the main road until it reached Tel Aviv at about noon, joining the general parade here. Israel’s achievements during the three years of its independence were also reviewed last night by Mr. Sharett in a nation-wide broadcast.
At Rehovot, residence of Dr. Weizmann, members of the diplomatic corps, of the Israel Cabinet and of the Parliament called upon President Weizmann. Solemn prayers for the health of the President were offered by Chief Rabbi Dr. Isaac Herzog at a ceremony in the Yeshurun Synagogue in Jerusalem attended by Cabinet members.
