In a violent protest against German Culture Week in Israel, egg-tossing, screaming demonstrators disrupted Thursday night the performance of a Berlin theater group in Jerusalem’s Convention Hall. Most of the protestors appeared to be yeshiva students but there were also a number of Betar youth movement members and former Nazi concentration camp inmates. Inside the hall, the Berlin Schiller troupe’s performance of Lessing’s “Emilie Galotti” was interrupted three times as the protestors shouted “Nazis” and “murderers” at the actors. Some persons entering the hall were spat on.
