In his first address in a Jewish house of worship, the Rev. Dr. L. Wendell Fifield of Plymouth Congregational Church, speaking at Friday evening services at Herzl Congregation, branded Hitlerism as “anti-Christian.”
The Sabbath services, attended by more than 600 persons, marked the first appearance of a Christian minister in the synagogue’s pulpit. Speaking on “Hitlerism: A Denial of Christianity,” the prominent Seattle cleric declared: “In his emphasis on force and in his fierce intolerance, Hitler represents a revolt of Teuton paganism against Christianity.”
