From the offices of the New Jersey Federation of Y. M. H. A.’s and Y. W. H. A.’s, Michael A. Stavitsky, president, announced today that more than 1,000 persons from all parts of the State are expected at the formal dedication Sunday afternoon of the Felix Fund Camps for Boys and Girls at Milford, Pa.
The camps, sponsored by the Federation, bear the name of the late merchant and philanthropist who was devoted to the Jewish community center movement.
Mr. Stavitsky, who also heads the camping department of the Federation, will preside at the exercises. The principal address will be delivered by Harry L. Glucksman, executive director of the National Jewish Welfare Board. Other “Y” executives also will speak.
Cedar Lake Camp for Boys and Camp Nah Jee Wah for Girls were formerly located in the Palisades Interstate Park. With the dedication of the property, which is owned by the “Y” Federation, these camps will henceforth be located in the Pocono Mountains, 1,300 feet above sea level.
400 ACRES PLAYLAND
The property consists of more than 400 acres of land, most of which is virgin forest, two natural lakes and enough open fields and playgrounds to take care of the needs of each individual child.
Already, two weeks before camp opening, capacity registration has been achieved with 400 enrollments; 250 boys and 150 girls. According to Max Schwartz, administrator of the camps, this capacity registration means no further enrollments can be taken for the summer.
Religious instruction and discussions as to Jewish history and folk lore are as much a part of the camp programs as are athletics and dramatics and play projects.
