In what he called a significant step to repay Canada for all the opportunities it has given him, Max Tanenbaum of Toronto has donated a S1.5 million art collection to the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. He gave the gallery 45 Indian and Nepali sculptures from the American collection of Nasli Heeramaneck. Buddhist, Hindu and Jain works are in the collection ranging from the second to the eighteenth centuries. Tanenbaum, 69, who is in the steel business, is a former chairman of the United Jewish Appeal of Toronto and active in numerous Jewish causes and institutions.
