A program of incentives aimed at persuading Israeli expatriates (yordim) to return home has been agreed to by Absorption Minister David Levy and Leon Dulzin, chairman of the World Zionist Organization Executive. It has been approved by Finance Minister Simcha Ehrlich as well and the Knesset’s finance committee is working out the final details. The measures were also approved by the Knesset’s immigration and absorption committee.
In effect, yordim who left Israel before April 1, 1975 and return by August 31, 1979 will receive many of the same privileges extended to new immigrants. This will include financial assistance while seeking work or to establish private business and additional assistance for housing. They will be exempted from taxes on personal effects and will be given free medical Insurance for six months.
