While the deadline for filing indemnification claims with the German authorities will not be extended beyond March 31, German officials will handle any claim reaching them before the deadline, even if filed by cable and without particulars, Dr. Blessin, head of the Compensation and Restitution Department at Bonn’s Finance Ministry, told a press conference here today.
Dr. Blessin and three other Bonn officials were ending a two-week visit to Israel during which they consulted with Israel Finance Ministry officials and hundreds of attorneys handling compensation claims against Germany.
Figures released at the press conference indicated Israel claimants should receive a total of $100,000,000 in the coming fiscal year. Dr. Blessin said that the total number of claims submitted by the end of 1957 was 1,700,000, most of it from abroad. He said the largest number of claimants resided in Israel and the second largest in the U. S.
