Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, director of the Selective Service System, today announced that all local draft boards have been requested to give “favorable consideration, wherever possible,” to requests of registrants of the Jewish faith not to be forwarded for physical examination or induction into the Armed Forces during Passover.
A communication to this effect has been sent to the National Jewish Welfare Board’s Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy. It says that Jewish registrants scheduled for physical examinations or induction between April 17th and April 25 have the right to request deferment until after Passover. Requests for such deferment should be made directly to local draft boards.
