The influential daily La Prensa, which has been under fire from the Peronist forces, has demanded more energetic action by the police to prevent future anti-Semitic incidents and to apprehend the perpetrators of the recent attacks against synagogues, private homes and individual Jews.
In a lead editorial, the paper says that it is difficult to believe that adequate safeguards cannot be taken to protect Jews and Jewish property. It stresses that the authorities must give “indisputable evidence that liberty, in all its forms, is not simply a declaration in the Argentine Constitution as far as the members of the Jewish community are concerned.”
