A call to the government to take more active measures against proponents of anti-Semitism was published this week in the Catholic daily “Los Principles” in the city of Cordoba.
The newspaper, one of the most influential in the province, said that it was “surprised” at the “tolerance” of the authorities toward known anti-Semites. It pointed out that in every instance “exaggerated nationalism is totalitarian and anti-Semitic.” It also devoted considerable space to the publicly stated opposition to anti-Semitism of Pope Pius XII.
Referring specifically to anti-Jewish incidents in the city, “Los Principios” asserted that although thugs of the Alianza Party were only besmirching Jewish-owned buildings now, “these acts are a step in the direction of further, more serious actions.”
