(Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
In connection with the interest taken by the Palestine population in the bulletins issued on King George’s condition, old residents here recall his visit to Jerusalem in 1822. He arrived with his brother, Prince Albert, on the eve of Passover and expressed the desire to attend a Seder service at the home of the Chief Rabbi.
Accompanied by the British Consul and his physician, they spent the evening at the Chief Rabbi’s home. The Prince expressed himself as deeply impressed by the ceremonies. Nissim Behar, then director of the Alliance Israelite Universelle schools here, now a resident of New York, supplied the explanations of the service to the distinguished guests who partook of the Passover meal.
