The ambassadors of Israel in Washington and Bucharest have been instructed to inquire about the reports that President Ford and a PLO official shook hands and spoke briefly at a reception held for Ford in Rumania’s capital when he visited the country a week ago. The ambassadors, according to reports in Israel, were instructed to inquire who initiated the meeting and what was said in the short conversation between the President and the PLO official.
(In Washington last Wednesday, State Department spokesman Robert Anderson said the PLO representative was present in the diplomatic greeting party arranged by the Rumanian government and that “The President had no substantive exchange with him at all.”)
