An appeal to the governments of the United States, Canada and the countries of Latin America to admit a larger number of refugees from Europe, was voiced here tonight at the closing session of the first Inter-American Conference of the World Federation for Polish Jews.
The conference adopted a resolution “deploring” Britain’s “undemocratic tactics” in Palestine and praising the Jewish community’s “restraint” in the face of “provocations” by the Mandatory Power. It also called upon the “conscience of the world” to demand the abrogation of the White Paper and admission to Palestine of all the refugees detained on Cyprus. The delegates also demanded recognition for the Jewish Agency as the spokesman of world Jewry at the United Nations and other international bodies.
The parley voted a $100,000 appropriation to establish an Institute of Publications. One of its first projects will be the publication, in cooperation with the Jewish Historical Commission of Poland, of an account of the sufferings of the Jews of Poland during the Nazi occupation.
