A program for the mass settlement in Palestine of refugees from Germany and other lands and outlining possibilities for the absorption of 2,800,000 settlers was submitted to the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees, which meets tomorrow in Washington at the invitation of President Roosevelt, by the American Emergency Committee on Palestine Affairs and the United Palestine Appeal.
The sponsors of the 30-page document said: “It is the conviction and the pledge of the sponsors of this memorandum that the adoption of a program by the Intergovernmental Committee, in cooperation with the British Government, to further large-scale settlement of refugees in Palestine will be met by a readiness on the part of Jews in the United States to furnish the substantial sums that will be required for the execution of such a program.”
Such funds would be contributed through the United Palestine Appeal. The Jewish Agency is prepared to accept tens of thousands of new Jewish settlers, the memorandum stated.
