The American Jewish Conference today announced that its Interim Committee, at its first meeting this week, approved various plans “for the aggressive implementation” of the program adopted by the assembly of the Conference which was held last month at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel here.
Henry Monsky and Dr. Stephen S. Wise were chosen co-chairmen of the Interim Committee, which is the body elected to carry on the work of the Conference until its next session. Additions to the co-chairmanship may be voted in the future An executive committee of 17 to act for the Interim Committee was also elected, with Dr. Wise and Mr. Monsky as co-chairmen of the executive committee.
Three commissions to carry out the three major decisions of the American Jewish Conference with respect to the resource of Jews from Axis Europe, post-war Jewish reconstruction and Palestine were created by the Interim Committee. The personnel of the commissions will be decided upon at the next meeting of the executive committee on October 31. Provision was also made for the selection of an executive director of the American Jewish Conference.
The Interim Committee, by a rising vote, adopted a declaration on behalf of American Jewry expressing profound appreciation and gratitude for the inspiring efforts of the peoples, governments and Kings of Denmark and Sweden on behalf of the rescue and safety of the Jews of Denmark.
