The international symposium on desert research today met at the Haifa Technion and adopted a resolution urging the United Nations Economic and Social Organization to strengthen the existing national research centers devoted to the various aspects of research in arid zones.
The resolution recommended the eventual creation of national bodies where the practical problems of each area can be brought for consideration. The symposium also declared that it appreciates the interest and support of the United Nations for research in arid zones, and suggested that UNESCO initiate steps for the preparation of a handbook to guide the collection of basic data.
