A committee of the International Red Cross, which has just completed an investigation of the camp at Asmara, Eritrea, where Jewish deportees from Palestine are confined, has recommended that investigation of the prisoners be speeded up, that those against whom no charges can be filed be released and that the living conditions at the camp be generally improved.
This was disclosed here today by the Prisoners of Zion Committee, which last summer appealed to the Red Cross to send an investigating commission to Asmara. The Red Cross is continuing negotiations with the British Government on conditions in the camp, it was also revealed.
(A Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent in Jerusalem reported today that British military authorities asked that the Asmara internees be returned to Palestine for security reasons, but were turned down by the Palestine Government, which thought it would be politically unwise.)
