The International Refugee Organization has finally become an official specialized agency of the United Nations with the joining of the organization by Denmark as the fifteenth nation, it was announced here today by Secretary-General Trygve Lie. According to its constitution, the I.R.O. could come into existence only after 15 nations ratified the constitution and agreed to provide at least 75 percent of its operating budget.
The first 2,000-3,000 DP’s to enter the U.S. under the latest immigration low will arrive in October, Warren Austin, U.S. delegate to U.N., announced in connection with Lie’s report. The monthly rate will increase to 8,000-9,000, Austin added.
