In preparation for the closing down of the International Refugee Organization next March, the I.R.O. has begun to hand over its refugee camps in Germany to the German Government for administration, it was announced by J. Donald Kingsley, director of the organization. The only camps excepted are those housing refugees in the process of resettlement.
Mr. Kingsley said that the German administration of the DP camps would be under the supervision of the occupation authorities and emphasized that the changeover was for the purpose of ensuring a much greater proportion of remaining I.R.O. funds to be spent on actual resettlement. He also said that refugees transferred to German administration are still eligible for resettlement. The announcement revealed that the hand-over had already started in the British zone and that 30 camps in the American zone would shortly be placed under the German authorities.
