An explanation of reports that the Intourist, Soviet travel company, had advertised in Julius Streicher’s rabid Nazi paper, Der Stuermer, was offered Friday by G. E. Elansky, president of the United States Intourist.
“According to information I have received,” he said, “I can definitely state that the Intourist in Berlin placed no advertising in Der Stuermer at any time. Misleading reports to this effect are probably due to the following situation:
“The Berlin office of the Intourist placed an advertisement concerning the Third Moscow Theatre Festival in the organ of the German Musical Chamber. Der Stuermer reproduced the advertisement with an accompanying article attacking the editor of the Chamber organ for accepting Intourist advertising.
