The Town Council of Long Branch will appoint a committee to investigate discrimination against Jews in Long Branch Park. Several councillors contended that the Council could not interfere, since the park, which belongs to the town, had been rented to individuals.
The majority, however, decided that the lessees must carry out conditions of the agreement, which does not specify that the park can be fenced and the general public prohibited from entering.
A week ago Jewish visitors were expelled by police after they had ignored signs placed in conspicuous places, reading for “Gentiles Only.” Prominent Jews and non-Jews from Toronto protested to the Town Council against the discrimination.
