Iran has sent a package of proposals on nuclear nonproliferation and international security to Russia and China.
Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Gholamreza Ansari, said at a news conference in Moscow on Friday that his country would seek to work through Russia and China with the new package of proposals on nuclear nonproliferation and international security aimed toward compliance with international sanctions. Ansari said that his country has close relations with China and Russia. He lashed out at the United States and Israel when asked about President Bush’s comments on the floor of the Israeli parliament last week.
Ansari compared the situation in Israel to the former apartheid of South Africa, and said that only the sort of international pressure used on South Africa would work on the Israeli government and bring about change in the Middle East.
“The main enemy of Israel is Iran. I believe that the entire Islamic world regards Israel as a country that was founded on unrecognized laws,” Ansari said, adding that the same view is held throughout the Islamic world. “Israel is a country that is founded on violence,” Ansari said, “And, to this day, it has not relented on its violent positions.”
