General Fazollah Zahedi, the Iranian Premier, gave assurances to a delegation representing Iranian Jews that they would be granted complete freedom and full rights under the Shah’s new regime, it was reported here today.
The Jewish community of Iran numbers 80,000 who have been living under precarious conditions. Fears had been felt that fanatical Moslem elements which participated in the coup that put Gen. Zahedi into power might demand action against the Jews in Iran and against the State of Israel.
Molia Yedidia, who headed the 30-man Jewish delegation, told the Premier that the Jewish community of Iran had always remained loyal to the throne. The Premier thanked the Jews for their loyalty and said that his government would do its utmost to approve any request by the community provided it did not conflict with Iranian law.
