The first united campaign for overseas Jewish relief in the history of Argentine Jewry gets under way tomorrow and will seek to raise seven million pesos ($1,750,000), it was revealed by Jacobo Murmis of Buenos Aires, acting president of the Junta de Ayuda, Jewish relief agency in the Argentine.
In a press conference at headquarters of the Joint Distribution Committee, ## Murmis disclosed that the major portion of the funds sought in the new drive will go towards relief, resettlement and reconstruction activities through the J.D.C. in Europe. Hailing the recent merger of the Junta with the Comite Central de Ayuda in Puenos Aires, Mr. Murmis declared that the new drive, largest ever undertaken by any Jewish group in South America, is based on the “deep desire of Argentina’s 375,000 Jews to share in assistance efforts in behalf of their distressed brethren in Europe.
