Mordechai Burd, an inmate of a camp for displaced Jews, has been turned over to the Italian police by UNRRA on charges of having beaten another camp resident who tore down posters put up by the Irgun Zvai Leumi, and of illegally bearing arms.
The victim, Shlomo Deutsch, was taken from his room in the middle of the night by three masked men, one of whom had a gun, and beaten. His assailants told Deutsch that he was being punished for defacing Irgun posters, and warned him to cease his anti-terrorist activities.
As a result of the incident, UNRRA today issued orders to all camp directors, prohibiting the posting of political literature of any sort inside the camp precincts.
