The Irish people have “tender feelings” towards the “young Jewish state,” Dr. Noel C. Browne, Minister of Health, declared here today, addressing a meeting of the anti-tuberculosis section of the Jewish Medical Society.
“Like the state of Israel,” he said, “the Republic of Ireland only in recent years obtained full independence. During a short period of self-government and independence,” he continued, “the general health of the people has greatly improved. Self-government will undoubtedly bring about similar results in Israel.”
A badge of the Anti-Tuberculosis League of Israel was presented to Dr. Browne at the conclusion of the meeting. He left the Society’s meeting, wearing the badge, to attend a session of the Irish Cabinet. Jewish and non-Jewish physicians attending the conference heard reports from Israel doctors that TB was wide-spread among new immigrants in Israel.
